How it works
What an MX record is
MX (mail exchanger) records tell the world which servers accept email for a domain. Without them, mail to that domain usually fails.
Priority
Each record has a number. Senders try the lowest number first and fall back to the next ones if it is unreachable.
Null MX
A single record pointing to "." means the domain officially accepts no email. Addresses on such domains will always bounce.
Questions
Why does a domain have no MX records?
It may not use email at all, or its DNS is misconfigured. Mail to it will usually bounce, so addresses on that domain should not be on your list.
How fast do MX changes show up?
DNS changes spread according to the record's TTL, often from a few minutes to a few hours. This tool asks public DNS, so it shows what senders see now.
Can I check a full email address?
Yes. Paste the address and we look up the part after the @. To check the mailbox itself, use the free email checker.
